Ministry for the Nations was born in 2011, but its roots were planted long before—in the heart of a child who knew what it meant to lack. I still remember walking to school in Honduras, carrying my notebooks in a plastic bag, praying they wouldn’t get ruined in the rain, says Walter Montes. I didn’t have a backpack, but I carried something far more significant—a hope that life could be different one day.
Years later, as I reflected on how God had blessed me in this country, He placed
a deep burden in my heart for the children of Honduras. He reminded me of my journey, igniting a mission with that. I asked myself: What can I do to ensure these children don’t have to experience the same struggles I did? And that’s how the Ministry for the Nations and the Happy Backpack ministry began.
In 2011, we took our first mission trip, collecting and delivering 300 backpacks filled with school supplies. Seeing the joy on those children’s faces—how something as simple as a backpack could lift their spirits and fuel their dreams—was nothing short of a blessing. That moment was just the beginning.
What started as a calling became a movement. Today, through God’s grace, we continue to serve, uplift, and bring hope to the next generation—one backpack,
one child, one life at a time.
